How does Chipper work?
Chipper is very easy to use. You can use Chipper to send and receive money to and from anyone in our coverage area for free. We do not charge any fees at all and there is no minimum amount so you can send any amount. To add money to your Chipper wallet, you can “Cash In” by adding money from your mobile money account in to your Chipper wallet. When you try to add cash from your mobile money account, you will receive a prompt on your phone to approve the request. Once you approve this prompt, Chipper will transfer the money from your Mobile Money account to your Chipper wallet. Once the money is in your Chipper wallet, you can send it to anyone at absolutely no charge. You can also move money from your Chipper wallet back to your mobile money account. To do this, simply enter the amount you wish to “Cash out” and tap the Cash Out button in the Chipper app. The money will be sent directly to your mobile money account instantly.
How much does it cost to use Chipper?
Chipper is 100% free to use and always will be. We do not charge any fees at all to send money to someone else – even when you send money to someone in another country!
Can you cancel a payment I have already sent?
Unfortunately no - the moment you send a payment in Chipper, we send process the transaction immediately and debit the funds from your account and make them available to your friend. Sorry about that!
If you want to get the funds back, simply have your friend send you a payment for the same amount, or you can simply request it back from them (they will have to approve your request though).
Please note: if you sent a payment to a contact who doesn’t have Chipper, you will be able to cancel that payment by tapping the “Cancel this payment” button on the feed card reflecting the payment.
This can only be done as long as the person you have sent it to has not signed up. Once the recipient signs up to Chipper with the phone number you sent the payment to, we will credit their account with the funds you sent and at that point you will not be able to cancel the payment.

I have multiple Mobile Money accounts on various networks. Can I use all of them to fund my Chipper wallet?
Yes. You can connect several mobile money accounts to your Chipper wallet and use any of them to add money to your Chipper wallet or to remove money from your Chipper wallet back to any of your mobile money accounts.
To add multiple mobile money accounts, go to the profile section of your Chipper wallet and select “Linked Accounts”.
What’s the most amount of money I can send using Chipper?
When you sign up for Chipper, there are no limits to how much money you can send per transaction within the Chipper app. However, there are limits to how much money you can “Cash In” or “Cash Out”. What is my Chipper balance and how do I check it?
Your Chipper Balance is made up of any payments that you’ve received and that you have not transferred to your mobile money account. You can see how much money is in your balance by going to your profile page and looking under your profile picture.
When you make a payment, if the amount of the payment is for more than your available Chipper balance, you will get an “Insufficient Balance” notice. You will need to add more money from your mobile money account in order to make your payment, or receive a payment from someone else.
Here’s an example:
Let’s say you are a Chipper user in Kenya and have KES 1,000 in your Chipper balance and want to pay a friend KES 1,200. In this case, you will receive an “Insufficient Balance” notice. In order to make this payment, you will need to add KES 200 from your connected Airtel or MPesa mobile money account, or receive a payment of KES 200 or more from a friend on Chipper.
What do I do if I receive a payment from a stranger?
If you receive a payment from someone that you don't know, you can simply send the payment back to the other user with a note explaining that they paid the wrong person.

Can I set up automatic recurring payments or charge requests?
Chipper doesn't offer automatic recurring payments or charge requests between users at this time.
Can I use Chipper to move money between two of my own payment methods?
Yes you can use Chipper to Cash In from one of your connected mobile money accounts and then Cash Out to one of your other connected mobile money accounts.
Can I use Chipper to buy or sell merchandise, goods, or services?
We are going to be introducing a Chipper for Business suite of services that will allow you to use Chipper to pay for goods or services using your Chipper wallet at merchants that accept the Chipper as a payment method or through mobile websites or apps that are approved to offer Chipper as a payment option. If available, the option to pay using Chipper will appear as a Chipper-branded payment button at checkout. When we introduce this service, we will notify all our users and promote it accordingly.
