The information in this article only applies to:

  • NIGERIAN customers with NGN/USD Chipper Cards

  • GHANAIAN customers with GHS Chipper Cards

  • UGANDAN customers with UGX Chipper Cards

Why was I charged a fee for my Chipper Card transaction that failed/declined due to insufficient funds?

We are updating our Terms & Conditions and are introducing a fee for USD/NGN/GHS/UGX card transactions that decline due to INSUFFICIENT FUNDS.

💡 Third-party providers charge Chipper Cash for every declined transaction. All fees collected cover the charges Chipper incurs. Chipper Cash does not profit from decline fees.

We monitor declined transactions so we can take appropriate action before this type of activity occurs too frequently. This is for the benefit of good customer account management and so we can continue to refine the products and services we offer to better meet our customers’ requirements.

When will the fee become effective and how much is the fee?

⏩ Effective May 2nd, 2023, there will be a non-refundable NGN 500/GHS 5 fee debited from your Naira/GHS Chipper wallet balance for every transaction on your USD/NGN/GHS Chipper card that declines due to insufficient funds.

⏩ Effective July 11th, 2023, there will be a non-refundable UGX 2,000 fee debited from your UGX Chipper wallet balance for every transaction on your UGX Chipper card that declines due to insufficient funds.

Is the fee only applied to transactions that decline due to INSUFFICIENT FUNDS?

Yes, the fee will only apply to transactions that decline due to insufficient funds.

How can I identify this "decline fee" in my transaction history?

When your transaction declines due to insufficient funds and you are debited, you will see this note “USD/NGN/GHS/UGX card declined transaction fee" on your Chipper Cash app activity feed.

What can I do to avoid this card decline fee?

  1. Ensure that your Chipper Card is always sufficiently funded to cover all your one-time and recurring (subscription) online payments. Follow the steps below to learn how to fund your Chipper Card:
▶ Go to your Card tab, select the Card type
    ▶ Tap "Top Up"
▶ Enter your preferred amount, then tap on "Add Funds"
▶ Your Chipper Wallet will be debited and your Chipper Card balance will be credited

    2. Remove/unlink your card details from any recurring (subscription) services that you no longer utilize and/or that you do not plan to keep paying for.
