How to verify your account with your BVN in Nigeria

The Chipper ecosystem is a community built on trust, therefore, we need you to submit valid documentation to verify your account.

We recommend you go through this process using a strong and secure internet connection to avoid interruptions. Also, please ensure your Chipper app is updated to the latest version on your App Store or Play Store.

For Nigerian accounts, we currently only accept BVN for account verification.

Introducing a new process for BVN verification on Chipper Cash (July 3rd, 2023)

To keep you and your information secure, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has introduced a new process for verifying your identity with your Bank Verification Number (BVN) details. In order to verify your identity using your BVN information, you need to agree to the use of your BVN with a One-Time Password (OTP).

What does this mean?

When you submit your BVN for verification on Chipper Cash, you’ll be prompted to provide an OTP that will be sent to your BVN-linked email address or phone number. Please ensure you have access to the email address or phone number linked to your BVN.

What if I can’t access my BVN-linked email or phone number?

This is a requirement by the CBN, as you need this email address or phone number for your One-Time Password. If, for any reason, you don’t have access to your BVN-linked contact details, kindly visit a branch of the bank where your BVN was initially issued. At your bank, you can request an update of your contact details (phone number and/or email address).

💡Please follow the steps below to verify your account with your Selfie and BVN:

  1. Go to your Profile Tab.

  2. Scroll to the bottom of the "Profile" page and tap "Get Verified".

  3. Tap “Verify My Account” and follow the given instructions.

  4. Complete your Selfie Verification by following the on-screen instructions. You can learn how to take a Selfie here.

  5. Once you complete your selfie verification, proceed to the BVN verification page by clicking on the "Tap to Verify" button.
    (Please ensure that your Chipper account full name matches the full name on your BVN)

  6. Ensure that you follow the on-screen prompts carefully and input your correct details during the process.
    (The screen below shows that your submission has been received)

Once submitted, we will review your documents within 2 working/business days.

If the verification fails, you will receive a message with the reason. On the "Profile" page, your verification status at the bottom of the screen will change to "Rejected/Needs Resubmission".

If this is the case, you can re-submit your BVN using the same process as above.
